For SALKANTAY Trek it is very important to be well prepared as the path is considered very challenging, this trek includes two days of trekking of 8 to 9 hours per day and one day exploring Machu Picchu.

Summary Itinerary

  • DAY 01: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA – CHAWLLAY

    Pick up from the hotel at 2:00 am, after the pick up we will take the passengers for 3 hours to the town of Soraypampa (place where the walk begins). Once in Soraypampa, we will walk for 1.5 hours to Humantay lagoon and then for 2 hours to our Rumi Wasi Camp, there you will have breakfast and then get ready for the walk. We will begin the Trekking to the Salkantay pass for 2.5 hours and then descend for 2 hours to Wayracmachay where we will have lunch and then walk for 3 more hours to our Chawllay camp, where we will have tea time, dinner and participate in a bonfire in honor of life (Andean stories), we will spend the night in our camp in the shelter of our Andean huts.

  • DAY 02: CHAWLLAY – LA PLAYA – SANTA TERESA – HIDROELÉCTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES

    We will be woken up with a cup of coca tea at 5:30 a.m. to begin our hike to the small town of La Playa Sahuayaco through the valley of Santa Teresa. During the hike we will see rivers, waterfalls, wild orchids and plantations of coffee, banana, granadillas, avocados, and others. On our way down we will be able to participate in the COFFEE TOUR, then we will take the local transport to the Hidroeléctrica train station. Here you will have two options: 1) If you are exhausted, you can take the train to Aguas Calientes ($33.00 extra). 2) If you are still eager to walk, you can walk from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes for approximately 3 hours following the train track. Once in Aguas Calientes, you will be able to visit the hot springs (optional) and in the evening we will have dinner at a local restaurant. In Aguas Calientes you will spend the night in a hotel that will have a private bathroom, hot shower, wifi, breakfast in the morning or (box breakfast) and luggage storage while you visit Machu Picchu.

  • DAY 03: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

    Today is the most important day of our trip, we will wake up around 4:00 in the morning to have our breakfast or (box breakfast). At 4:30 am we will begin our walk to the lost citadel of the Incas "Machu Picchu. "We will arrive at the sanctuary of Machu Picchu at 6:00 am to begin our guided tour for approximately 2 hours through the most important places of this archaeological center, after our guided tour you will have free time to visit the Wayna Picchu mountain or Machupicchu (Optional according to your income). Passengers who return by bus must be at Hydroelectric no later than 3 pm to then bring them for 6 hours to the city of Cusco. Passengers returning by train must be at the station 30 minutes before the departure of their train, in Ollantaytambo our transportation will be waiting to bring them to the city of Cusco.
